FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

#1. Which of the 3 breeds?

The most common question we are asked is "Which of the 3 breeds is the best?" There is no doubt that after 30 plus years of teaching dog training classes, private instruction, owning many different breeds including toy breeds, that the German Shepherd, Doberman Pinscher, and Rottweiler, if well bred for temperament, are the best family dogs. We offer you the chance to adopt a dog with your personal preference in mind without the worry of selecting the wrong breed because of bad temperament or health issues.

#2. Male or female?

Again, this is a matter of preference. Recently Kathy came up from Florida and had the unique opportunity to adopt a sister and brother Dobie. She finds Ramses, the boy, much more laid back and affectionate whereas Raven, his sister, is much more consciencious and concerned for Kathy and the rest of her family of 3 cats. One of Brittany's daughters has two children who sleep with one of Brittany's female Rottweilers and the other daughter has 3 pre-schoolers who live with one of Brittany's male German Shepherds. A great family dog is all things for his family.

#3. What is the best age to adopt a puppy?

This question is extremely individual depending on your situation, previous experiences, and particular needs. Whatever age you choose to take home your puppy, be assured that we have raised and trained your puppy to be the best he or she can be up until the time he comes home to you. Our clients have found that housebreaking, destructive behavior, and all of the other issues common to raising a puppy have not been problematic. This is because of our genetic breeding program, our proper training techniques, the post adoption guidance and further training we make available to you, much of it on video. We are always just a phone call away and always happy to help you or just listen to your latest adventure with your new puppy!

#4. Our family wants a very affectionate loving companion but protective as well. Is this possible?

Not only is this possible, it is our ultimate goal in the adoption process. As Brittany always says, "There is a tremendous difference between a protective family companion and an agressive dog". You will learn more about this concept as we work with you through the adoption process.

#5. How will I know this is the best puppy for us?

We make the adoption process an unforgettable, wonderful experience and part of that is having you as involved in the selection of your puppy as you can possibly be. Watching the puppies on videos in their natural home environment with us provides you with a lot of insight, allowing this crucial choice of your puppy to go very smoothly.

#6. All puppies look alike! How will I know what my puppy is going to look like as an adult?

We provide you videos and pictures of all of the relatives, not just the parents as many puppies do not turn out to look just like a particular parent. A more telling picture will be of adult dogs from previous litters plus current relatives as well as ancestors. Again, videos provide a good picture of your prospective puppy.

#7. Will my new dog accept my other pets and be good with my children?

This is "a must" by our standards. Brittany raised her bloodlines with this issue the ultimate priority as she was raising her daughters and enjoying other pets, including cats, other toy breed dogs, and birds at the very same time. We only breed dogs that have these qualities firmly in place and we do not consider anything else an option. Whether you have children, other dogs, or animals you can be assured that your new dog will be the untimate well mannered family member providing many hours of companionship, love, as well as protection. Protection is always an appropriate measured response towards the undesirable adult, not towards a child or animal. This usually entails a look or a bark.

#8. We don't have a lot of room for a dog that large "to run" but I really want one of your dogs.

The biggest secret about our dogs is that they don't want room to run-- they want YOU to be with them. If you provide your dog with quality time which means having him with you as much as you can, whether he is laying at your feet when you are on the computer, watching TV, or just exploring nature close to home, he will be in heaven just being able to enjoy your company. We breed our dogs with this type of temperament at the forefront. Your dog will not need to be amused with a lot of activity, ball playing, or food rewards. His ultimate aim will be to be in your good graces, be assured he is loved and enjoyed by you just for being himself. This is the same thing we in the human family want.

#9. I had one of these breeds once and he was extremely hyper, hard to live with, and out of control.

A dog this large needs to be bred for temperament. This means that he is not a test of strength. The most physically powerful dog should listen to your smallest family member as well as the head of the household. Yes, we breed for this type of compliant temperament as all of our dogs go home to families and live in their homes. They have to be gentle, relaxed, and subservient to your family members, yet not to strangers. Subservient, however, does not mean subdued. Your dog will always have spirit and courage in his eyes!

#10. I want one of your dogs. How soon can I get him?

Breeding, then raising true Gentle Giants takes a lot of patience and time. especially since we don't breed for quantity as this takes everything away from individual quality raising. Every puppy needs quality time from us right from the beginning and we look forward to and raise each litter and individual in the litter with all of our committment, hearts, and passsion. This is clearly seen on your puppy raising video and this committment comes through to you when you get to enjoy your incredible gorgeous puppy!
